The Joys of Having Healthy Food
With today’s fast-paced world and modern living, most people have become too busy living the life they chose. They have become too busy to appreciate the beauty of nature such as the blossoming flowers in the garden, the birds chirping happily early in the morning and the clear skies over their heads. Sadly enough, some have even become too busy to do simple things that could make them truly happy and healthy – spending time with their loved ones, walking along the beach, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep and preparing their own food. Yes, some people are so busy with work and other pursuits that they barely have time to think what to prepare for breakfast or cook for dinner. Additionally, this modern lifestyle gives us many choices when it comes to food. There are several restaurants specializing in different cuisines to choose from. There are also a wide array of processed foods in the grocery.
While these foods are usually a treat to our taste buds, they do not offer the same result to our health. Most of these processed foods are not nutritious and can actually damage the health for they contain harmful ingredients or chemicals. Foods like potato chips and other junk foods may contain calories that is more than the required daily intake. Know that too much calories can potentially cause weight gain however, inappropriate dieting can also lead to rebound weight gain hence calorie intake should be limited to what is needed only. Soft drinks on the other hand contain sweetening that is associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, dental cavities and low nutrient levels.
To ensure that our body is at its best, we should take care of it by eating healthy foods at the same time living a healthy lifestyle. Healthy foods will not hurt our palate nor will it prevent us from eating delicious foods that we love. Remember, a healthy diet is not synonymous to bland or appalling diet. It is just a matter of choosing the right kind of foods to eat.
Dairy products are great source of calcium and many other essential nutrients that could supply us with energy, make our bones and teeth strong and lower the risk of kidney stones, breast cancer, colon cancer and ovarian cancer. Like dairy products, fruits can supply our body with energy too. It can even supply the body with vitamins and minerals that can potentially help fight certain kinds of cancer, cures urinary tract infection, lowers cholesterol, prevents constipation and other stomach issues and of course, keeps the skin healthy and young-looking.
Many people are not fond of eating vegetables but what they fail to recognize is its capacity to provide the body with proteins and carbohydrates. Vegetables can potentially lower the risk of type 2 diabetes, certain kinds of cancer, coronary heart disease and kidney stones. Lean meats on the other hand are great sources of protein, long-chain fatty acids, B vitamins, iron and zinc that can strengthen the bones, help boost the immune system and increase energy. They are also helpful in repairing and maintaining body tissues, digestion, metabolic breakdown as well as keeping the skin healthy.
While each of these foods can supply the body with the nutrients needed, we should not eat just one type of a particular food alone. In other words, though meat has nutritional value, it should not be the only component of food. We also need to eat vegetables and fruits on daily basis to ensure that we get healthy and balanced diet.
Our body is the only one that we have. Once ruined, it can be repaired but cannot be replaced. So before it starts to deteriorate, measures should be taken to keep it in good state. Live healthy, be healthy! That’s the joy healthy foods can offer.
